GANGTOK (7th Feb)
For the first time Mrs. Choezom Tsering, Executive Director of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce with her assistant Miss Dolma visited the North East Regions of India (Gangtok, Darjeeling and Kalimpong). Since independent Tibet, these north east regions have hosted many Tibetan Businessmen and have formed a small yet powerful business community even today. During this tour they were able to create awareness about Tibetan Chamber of Commerce and to draw the new members from the region.
On February 7th 2010, Tibetan Chamber of Commerce organized a meeting with the Tibetan Businessman in Gangtok at Hotel Tibet. Mr. Khewang Tashi, Tibetan welfare officer of Gangtok graced the meeting with his presence as a chief guest. He welcomed the initiatives of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce. About 10 very enthusiastic Businessman attended the meeting. During the meeting it was learned they were unaware of the existence of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce in exile. Mrs. Choezom(Executive director) informed how TCC began with initiatives from the Finance department of Central Tibetan Administration under the Prime Minister Katri Prof. Samdong Rimpoche dand. She also stressed on the need of active participation from the Tibetan Business community to empower the overall business community and the ways in which the Chamber could be a platform to transform, empower, guide and connect the members to more organized and prosper business perspectives. The meeting was deeply appreciated by the businessman who came for the meeting and was well received.

Immediately after a quick lunch, we went to the Chol-Kha-Sum hall; prepared the logistic and waited for the people to come, little nervous yet remained hopeful. Around 30 people came to the meeting and most of them were elders. As planned, we did the presentation on Tibetan Chamber of Commerce and specially requested the people who come for the meeting to be our delegates in creating awareness on the Tibetan Chamber of Commerce. Many appreciated the TCC and its initiatives.

DARJEELING (9th Feb)
With some experiences on the public gathering in the regions, we opted for another strategy in Darjeeling. In the morning, we met the welfare officer; also present there was the Head of the local Tibetan Woman Association and Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, who has agreed to take us to all the business man one by one to their respective places. We began with the hoteliers and end our one to one meetings with the shop keepers who deal with the garments businesses.
There, the contact was immediate, we went to every hoteliers and shop keepers, a few agreed to be our member yet it was more satisfying initiative when we came across some of them discussing on the existence of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce, holding TCC brochure which we just distributed. We requested them to go through our website for more information. It was definitely a stepping stone journey laid out for future friendships and associations. Though not many people joined TCC as its member however every businessman for sure is now aware of the existence of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce.
In Darjeeling we had 6 new members who joined Tibetan Chamber of Commerce:

The visit to North East regions of Gangtok, Kalimpong and Darjeeling was success, making every Tibetan businessman know about the Tibetan Chamber of Commerce and also we managed to grasp a few yet important and potential businessmen from these regions.
And since both of us were not familiar with the regions, we are so grateful to the supports and friendship we have received from the local welfare officers and their staff, Head of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Woman Association of Darjeeling, Sonam Gyaltsen (reporter, BodGyalo), Yangzom La of HOTEL CAPITAL and all those wonderful known and unknown individuals without their extended kind support, we would not have made the trip as success and accessible as it has been with us in our first visit.
